Balos is a lagoon located on the Gramvousa peninsula, at the northwestern tip of Crete. Its main feature is the shallow water and the white sand, which in places is pink due to the crushed shells and corals.
Menies beach is located in a small creek at the northeastern end of Cape Rodopou. The magic of this landscape obviously fascinated the ancient Cretans, who chose the bay of Menies to build one of their most glorious sanctuaries, which was dedicated to the goddess Vritomartis.
